This celebration serves to bring awareness to Oahu’s diverse population of 120,000 Hispanics from over 22 nations. It is co-produced by the Arts at Marks Garage, The Arts District Merchant Association, ChinatownGetDown.com, Alma Latina Radio Show and others. This celebration will showcase the diversity of Latino culture in Hawaii and includes music, dance, cuisine and the arts.

The Cinco de Mayo Street Festival specifically highlights Honolulu’s connection to all the beautiful colors, dances, arts, music, folklore and cuisine of Latin America. Local Mexican, Puerto Rican, and Cuban restaurants will feature seasonal specialties, alongside downtown landmark establishments and the best of Honolulu lunch-wagon eateries. Expect Nachos, spicy Chili Con Queso, Tamales and Horchata, Elotes and Pasteles, alongside Chicken Mole and Green Rice, Mexican Pizza, Lamb & Chicken Biryani, French crepes and Cheesecake.

The streets will be covered with festive decorations. Flower girls dressed in theme will entice the crowds to join in the spectacle. Event highlights:

  • Keiki Corner with Games, Prizes, Pinatas, face Painting & other Fun things. This booth is sponsored by Woodmen of the World Fraternal Lodge.
  • BANDS: Mariachi Loco ~ Strolling the streets, Son Caribe Salsa Band, Roshan~Tribute to Santana Band, Sewa Fare~Afro-Cuban Drums.
  • Dances of Mexico directly from San Jose, California~Ballet Folkloric “Costa de Oro” Mariachi Singer~Christina Linares.
  • Epica Latin Dance Company, Arthur Murray Dancers(Latin/Fusion), Flash Mob, Samba Dancers.
  • Special Appearance by: Miss Latina Hawaii`2013~Steisha Sheather.
  • 808 El Control DJ’s in the Alma Latina Radio Tent.(K-108, 1080am).

Cinco De Mayo Street Festival 2013 is free to all.

Over 21″s will be carded and $5 drink wristbands will be required for enjoying alcoholic beverages. A $10 wristband is available, which also provides entry to multiple nightclubs in the district, running live bands and DJs from 10:00 pm to 2:00 am. Seven Contestants Compete for Miss Latina Hawaii 2013

Join us for an exciting evening on Saturday, February 9th at the Mamiya Theatre, 3142 Waialae Avenue, 5:30pm., when we crown the new “Miss Latina Hawaii” 2013.

The Miss Latina Hawaii Scholarship Pageant serves as a preliminary pageant for the Miss Hawaii Pageant and the Miss America Organization.

The seven contestants vying for this title are: Gabriella Sheindlin, Christina Linares, Jasmyne Garay, Keoni Maldonado – Diaz, Dzidzielia Trevino-Marquez, Carin Young, and Steisha Sheather.

All contestants compete in Private Interview, Lifestyle & Fitness in Sportswear, Talent, Evening Wear, On-Stage Question and Scholastic Achievement.

The new Miss Latina Hawaii will represent the Hispanic Community at the Miss Hawaii Pageant. Then if chosen as Miss Hawaii, she would go on to compete in the world renowned Miss America Pageant.

The Miss Latina Hawaii Scholarship Pageant has been established to provide Latin women the opportunity to grow as well rounded individuals. Through participation skills and showcase their talents.

In addition we will have great Contemporary/Hispanic Entertainment.

Hola Mi Gente, its time to GIVE back! The Alma Latina Radio Show is on its 36th year! Week after Week we continue to play the best in “musica Latina”, supporting ALL the different Latin venues, DJ’S, bands and community “Hispanic” events, by making announcements,etc., for you “FREE” of charge. Once every three or four years we do a fundraiser to keep the show on the airwaves, as we pay for air time given……so this coming Saturday we are asking for your support!

Tonight we join in on the magic as seven, wonderfully talented, dedicated, and personable young women present for you the 2012 Miss Latina Hawaii Scholarship Pageant.
The Miss Latina Hawaii Scholarship Pageant is in it’s first year and we have the honor of being a preliminary pageant for the Miss Hawaii/Miss America Organization. There are so many people who have helped us this year. First and foremost we would like to thank God, for without him none of this would be possible. Also a big thank you goes out to the support of many important Individuals and Organizations including our Corporate Sponsors, Scholarship Donors, Directors, Committee Members, Volunteers, Contestants, and Family Members that have made all of this possible.
To Ryan Brown and the Miss Hawaii Organization – thank you for supporting this program. Each and every one of these young ladies have taken on the challenge and have committed themselves to exemplifying what the organization is all about: scholastic achievement, healthy living, community service, and creative accomplishment. Through their participation, the contestants will undoubtedly be rewarded with scholarship opportunities and the development of personal qualities that will allow them to achieve any goal which they set their minds to in the future.

Enjoy four days of fantastic local live Salsa entertainment plus local & invited international Artists, DJ’s, Dance Instructors, Dance Performances and more! Workshops for all ages: Salsa, Bachata, Cuban, Cha-Cha-Cha, Tango, Zumba, Bomba y Plena, all in beautiful locations around Honolulu!

Salsa Dance Competition! Winning couple goes to the 2nd World Latin Dance Cup  to represent Hawaii in the Ultimate Dance Competition at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas, December 14-17, 2011. Produced by Albert Torres Productions, Inc. (ATP).
